Opportunities to Serve

At First Presbyterian, we understand that we are the “body of Christ.” We are called to do the work of Christ in the world, and we each have a part to play.
If you would like to volunteer with the following ministries – or simply have questions – contact the people listed below. Phone numbers and e-mail addresses can be obtained through the church office or the co-pastors.

Barth Elementary School Tutors

Approximate commitment: 1 hour per week
Barth Elementary School Bookbuster Clubs
“Bookbuster Clubs” are fourth and fifth grade book groups at our partner elementary school. “Bookbuster” leaders facilitate the discussion of books to enrich the education of motivated and capable students.

Choirs

Cluster Outreach Center

Emergency food and clothing pantry supported by the church is located at 137 Walnut Street.
Committees: Administrative (Property and Finance), Christian Education,
Fun and Fellowship, Membership, Mission, and Worship

All committees meet on the first Wednesday of the month and any church Member is invited to serve on a committee.
Community Meals Cooks

Approximate Commitment: 3 hours per month on the second Thursday of the month
Community Meals Servers

Approximate Commitment: 1.5 hours per month on the second Thursday of the month
Cub Scouts
Contact: Mike Ziemba
Approximate commitment: 1.5 hours per week on Mondays
Gardeners – flower or vegetable!
Seasonal tending of our community vegetable garden, or the flower beds in our Peace Garden and around the church.

Mission Trips
Adult mission crews have helped rebuild in Mississippi and New Orleans, and are preparing to go to Guatemala or Honduras to install water purification systems (see Living Waters for the World).

Occasional assistance in the church office, for varied lengths of time, depending on the project.

Sanctuary Keepers
Tend and keep the sanctuary

School Teachers

Approximate commitment: 7 hours per month
Workcamps
For fifteen years, senior highs and advisors have traveled to urban areas to help repair homes for the elderly or low-income families.

Rays of Hope
Light construction and carpentry work in homes of the elderly and low- income families in the Pottstown area. Approximate time commitment varies.
